On 14 May 2015 the WA government announced as part of its 2015-16 budget the introduction of no-fault catastrophic injury cover.
Although the details have not yet emerged, it has been reported that the WA government will give accident victims who can prove fault the choice between opting into a lifetime care and support scheme and managing their own care.
This is a hugely welcome development as it honours the call of people with disabilities for choice and self-determination.
For many people, who have battled an insurance company for years, the most important thing is to get your life back and be able to make your own decisions.
Being forced into a lifelong relationship with a bureaucracy is not ideal. Many will hugely value the ability to select a public or private trustee company, and/or a financial manager who will help them implement an appropriate investment strategy to deliver lifelong financial security and peace of mind.
